Southwestfest PDF Print E-mail

Once again St Vincent’s Family Project was represented at SoutWestFest, Westminster’s biggest community led festival, now an annual event. The Festival Gala Day in St George’s Square, Saturday June 26th, was attended by thousands of happy locals enjoying a packed day of fun.

Along with other organisations we manned a stand to increase our profile in the community and publicise the support we give to parents and children alike. Staff members and volunteers talked to the many passers by and visitors to the stand. It was great to catch up with families who used to come to SVFP in the past. Haven’t the children grown!! In a relaxed context a lot of networking with other professionals and groups went on. Its good to be seen to be working together.

The food was very popular! Supplies of Jamaica goat curry, jallof rice, chickpea curry, and samosas were very quickly eaten up by visitors to the stand.

It was a great opportunity to meet new families and it has been lovely to see some coming to the Drop in Centre as a consequence.

Family space trips PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday, 12th June, a coach load of parents and ‘buzzing’ children visited Millets Farm in Oxfordshire for a day of fun, activities and fruit and vegetable picking. For most the picking was a new experience although for some parents it revived childhood memories from an upbringing in a rather more rural setting than inner city London. For the children it was an education in food production. So, that’s where it comes from! Quantities of strawberries, peas and broad beans were picked to be taken home for the family kitchen. No-one counted the number of strawberries that found their way into young tummies!

Afterwards everyone enjoyed a visit to the farmyard to see the animals; pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and a pony.

Everyone had a most relaxing day. Plans are afoot to make a return visit in the early autumn. Hopefully there will be apples, pears, and an array of other vegetables. Can’t wait!! Watch this space.

Other trips have included a visit to Kew Gardens. As well as the gardens there were wide open spaces to run around in, have a picnic, and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

On Wednesday, 30th June Family Space joined hundreds of other groups at the Great Amazing Children’s Party at Battersea Park. It was our biggest group ever. Fun and games were enjoyed by all. Hot Dogs and Burgers and drinks were there for hungry people. Did you see the Cheeky Girls? And did you have your picture drawn by the illustrator of the Mr Men books?

Fortunately no one got lost and after a visit to Battersea Zoo a tired but happy bunch of people returned home.
