Will I need to volunteer during the school holidays? Expand You are not required to volunteer during these times as we understand that family time is precious! Please let a member of staff know if you will not be able to volunteer during these times.
How do I apply for an internship? Expand If you are interested in doing an internship or work placement at the charity, you will need to complete your CV and then make it clear which area of the charity you would like to work in. We have many partner universities already which can be seen on our internships page. If you would like to intern from a different university, please email our recruitment team at [email protected].
Will I receive any training? Expand Yes, you will receive a full induction and ongoing training and supervision carried out by a member of staff. There are also opportunities for professional development, such as Speech and Language Training.
Do I need any formal qualifications? Expand No. However, all of our staff will need to demonstrate an understanding of children and patience in working with them.
Do I need a DBS check to volunteer? Expand For most of our roles, you will be required to have an enhanced DBS check. However, if you currently do not have one, we can arrange this for you.
How much time do I need to give? Expand We would ideally like someone to commit to at least one day or more a week. This can vary according to the role that you will be doing, for example, a crèche volunteer will need to be available at least one day a week from 9.30am-12.30pm.
Am I the right person to work at St. Vincent's Family Project? Expand Our volunteers are of all ages and different backgrounds as an equal opportunities employer we will never discriminate. We have a variety of volunteer roles at the charity, so if you would like to improve the skills you already have or you would like to learn new skills for a new career path, we would love to have your support.
Philippa Gitlin Chair Expand Philippa Gitlin has years of experience as a leader in the not-for-profit sector, which includes Head of Fundraising at Depaul UK, Director at Caritas Social Action Network and CEO of Family Service Units. She has also been involved as a trustee or governor for different charities and schools since 1994 including St Thomas More Secondary Catholic School, Depaul France and a former SVFP Trustee (2000-2010). Currently Philippa is providing consultation for an international project supporting Romanian care leavers.
Ifeoma Okafor Trustee Member Expand Ifeoma Okafor is a Chartered Accountant with an MSc in Financial Economics, with experience of working for major international banks. Her voluntary work has included being a Job Coach, a Literary and Numeracy Tutor, as well as being a Trustee for a charity seeking to empower disadvantaged people.
Deacon Ali McMillan Trustee Member Expand Deacon of the Methodist Church at the Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, Deacon Ali McMillan had been a Teacher in Secondary Schools and Sixth form colleges before joining the ministry. She has through her pastoral activities worked with all age ranges in the community.
Teresa Crowley Trustee Member Expand Teresa works as a Pastoral Liaison Officer and Careers Leader at Notre Dame School, in both roles she deals with outside agencies and is a school liaison for many different businesses, charities and local authority agencies. Teresa has a degree in Social Sciences and a Post Graduation Qualification in Careers Leadership. She loves her job at Notre Dame School working on enrichment projects with the students which include programmes like: an art project around the First World War that was exhibited at The Guildhall, a dance project with Rambert which saw the students perform at their studio and writing a book of memories with the local elderly day centre.
Sister Kathleen Kennedy Trustee Member Expand Sister Kathleen Kennedy entered the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul in 1996. She worked in residential child care for fourteen years after which she ran a pre-school group in a primary school setting. She qualified as a teacher with Bachelor of Arts with Qualified Teacher Status (BAQTS) and taught in an inner city primary school for sixteen years. She worked as part of a city wide Evangelisation Team in Hull before being appointed to the Provincial Council.
Sister Liz Ferrie Trustee Member Expand Sister Liz Ferrie has served the Daughters of the Charity of St. Vincent De Paul for 53 years. She is both a qualified Nursery Nurse and RGN for adults. Her working life is one of caring for people of every age and conditions. She has also travelled considerably for her work for humanitarian causes. Having spent 6 years in Paris as English speaking Secretary she returned to England where she has been working on research for the Daughters of Charity.
Joanna Wormell Trustee Member Expand Joanna Wormell, having completed a first degree in Russian, was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2002. Since 2007 Joanna has worked for RBS and currently holds the position of Managing Director, Global Head of Compliance, Capital Resolution. Though a very experienced traveller she lives in South Westminster.
Rosemary Jackson Trustee Member Expand Rosemary Jackson is Senior Vice President for Real Time Solutions, part of Mastercard International. She is much-travelled though based in London now. Rosemary was the first Trustee SVFP recruited through BoardLead, a programme to support charities find executives from the private sector wanting to contribute skills and experience.
Tim Hassell Trustee Member Expand Tim Hassell is our newest Trustee. He is the MD for Drakers, a London lettings company who let up to 700 properties each year. Tim has previously supported other charities, particularly to help raise funds. He was born in Liverpool and his charity interests come from his appreciation of others who have helped him to get where he is today and a desire to do something similar for others.
