Why we need volunteers

The work of St Vincent’s Family Project depends on volunteers to enable us to deliver our services. Without our volunteers, we simply cannot provide the affordable and high quality services we are currently delivering to our families.

As a volunteer you will make a difference in many lives. Volunteers are highly valued at St. Vincent’s Family Project as they contribute to the organisation through their commitment, enthusiasm and support to the families that visit the project.

We have enjoyed the support of many people who have enhanced the culture of the organisation by their commitment of time as well as by their enthusiasm and love for the families and children they have sought to support.

It has been such a unique experience working with the families that come here... the moment I joined I immediately felt a part of the project

Why Volunteer with us?

People volunteer for many different reasons. Volunteering can be a great way of meeting people, learning new skills and gaining work experience as well as giving back to the local community.

Students studying child care or social work and wanting a placement have found that we are a good organisation to help with their learning process. On top of that, volunteering is a great way to make new friends.

The amount of time offered varies considerably according to availability and personal circumstances; from a couple of hours to two days a week. Age is no barrier, everyone is welcome!

How you can make a difference?

Volunteers carry out a range of roles including:

  • Making our service users feel welcome
  • Child care in the crèche
  • Family support work in the Drop-In Centre
  • Complementary therapies
  • Fundraising
  • Office administration
  • ICT technical support
  • Graphic design and publicity
  • Web design and writing
Wherever possible we match availability, interest and skills to our needs. Whatever people have to offer is appreciated.

What we offer

We appreciate the support of volunteers and in return, we aim to give back to the community. We do this by giving:

  • A full induction
  • Ongoing training and supervision
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Refund of reasonable travel expenses
  • Equal opportunities for employment
  • A reference on satisfactory completion of volunteering

Volunteers are regarded as equally as important as staff and team members.

What our volunteers say

"I had a period of ill health followed by a long break from work and volunteering has been my way back into working again."

"I really enjoy working with the SVFP team, everyone is so supportive"
